The TRT Story
TRT International has been moving difficult freight for over 30 years. What began as a transportation company anchored in the Port of Newark has grown into a one-stop logistics operation whose main warehouses sit inside two of the East Coast’s most important ports — Port Newark-Elizabeth and the Port of Savannah — backed by many more warehouses and a team that handles every leg of a shipment itself.
From the start, TRT has specialized in the cargo standard carriers struggle with: over-dimensional and overweight freight, project cargo, and loads that travel on flat racks and open tops. Whether a piece is high, wide, or heavy, the work is planned around the cargo — the route, the equipment, the permits, and the handling — so it arrives securely and on schedule. That specialty is why importers, exporters, manufacturers, and project cargo shippers trust TRT with shipments that cannot be handed to a general carrier.
Three decades in, the approach has not changed: innovation, professionalism, and flexibility in how each shipment is planned, and a single team accountable for it from the first phone call to final delivery. Our aim is to be the benchmark for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction in our industry — and to earn that standing one shipment at a time.
What We Do
TRT is a one-stop solution for transportation needs across the supply chain. Our main services each have their own page on this site:
- Warehouse Services — warehouse space, transloading, and outdoor storage for out-of-gauge cargo in Newark and Savannah
- Bonded Warehouse — bonded warehousing and Container Freight Station (CFS) handling in Port Newark-Elizabeth for in-bond and project cargo
- Oversize Transportation — oversize and heavy-haul transport with route planning, permitting, and escort coordination
- Drayage Services — container drayage at Port Newark-Elizabeth and the Port of Savannah: port pickup, transloading, and delivery
- Ocean Freight — ocean freight for oversized and project cargo, coordinated with TRT drayage and warehousing
- Air Freight — time-critical air freight coordinated with ground transport, warehousing, and final delivery across the US
- Specialized Services — specialized handling for oversized, overweight, and high-value project cargo, under one roof
- Auto Shipping Solutions — vehicle and auto shipping, coordinated with port drayage and warehousing in Newark and Savannah
- Heat Shrink Wrapping — industrial shrink wrapping, export crating, and craning that prepares oversized and project cargo for safe transport
Specialized services that complete the picture:
- Freight Consolidation — smaller LCL shipments combined into full containers at our bonded CFS, and deconsolidated on import
- Transloading — containers unloaded, sorted, and reloaded for onward delivery at our port warehouses
- Outdoor Storage — secure outdoor yards for out-of-gauge cargo, heavy pieces, and container parking
- Cross-Dock Services — freight received, sorted, and reloaded for its next leg without long-term storage
- Flat Rack Lashing — professional lashing and securing of cargo on flat racks, with reinforcement structures where the load requires them
- Open Top Loading — top loading of over-height cargo into open-top containers
- Overweight & Distressed Loads — planned moves for overweight loads, and re-working, re-securing, and re-loading of loads that shifted, were damaged, or failed inspection
- Boat & Yacht Transport — professional container and flat rack loading and exporting for boats and yachts
Because these services sit inside one company, a single shipment can combine them: ocean freight arriving at Port Newark-Elizabeth, drayage into our bonded warehouse, wrapping and craning to prepare the piece, and oversize transportation to its final destination — planned by one team, with one point of contact.
Where We Operate
Our headquarters is located within the Port Zone in Newark, inside Port Newark-Elizabeth — the base from which TRT’s warehousing, bonded CFS, and drayage operations run. In Newark, TRT operates 150,000 square feet of warehouse space in total: a 120,000-square-foot warehouse anchored on 20 acres of yard space in the Port of Newark, plus a 30,000-square-foot warehouse with loading docks built for specialized cargo handling, together with secure outdoor storage for out-of-gauge cargo.
Our second main location is Savannah, Georgia, where our brand-new warehouse offers 316,800 square feet on a 30-acre site in the Port of Savannah — room for larger shipments, staging, transloading, and outdoor storage, backed by our Savannah drayage operation. Newark and Savannah are TRT’s main locations, but not the only ones: TRT operates many warehouses, and also operates in Miami, Florida; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; and Seattle, Washington. Our drayage coverage runs across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, as well as eastern Pennsylvania, and serves the Port of Savannah — so cargo picked up at the port can be delivered, stored, or staged wherever the shipment needs it next.
Why Shippers Choose TRT
Bonded carrier, bonded CFS. TRT is a bonded carrier and operates a bonded Container Freight Station (CFS) in Newark, so in-bond cargo can be received, held under customs supervision, and moved onward — with duties and taxes deferred until the shipment is released — by the same team that handles the rest of the move.
Credentials that matter. TRT is a SmartWay Transport Partner, and our team brings specialized experience handling military cargo shipments alongside commercial freight — work that demands the same discipline, documentation, and care we apply to every load.
Secure, around the clock. All TRT warehouses are protected with state-of-the-art surveillance systems and 24-hour security guards, so cargo in our care is safe and secured day and night — indoors, and in our outdoor yards for out-of-gauge pieces.
One team, end to end. Drivers, warehousemen, dispatchers, and executives work as one team, with state-of-the-art tracking keeping your shipment visible from pickup to delivery. Our multilingual agents assist in nine languages, and our headquarters inside the Port Zone keeps us positioned to move high, wide, and heavy cargo with fewer restrictions. You always deal with the people actually moving your freight — never a chain of subcontractors.
