Our Equipment

Our Equipment

TRT International owns and operates the equipment that moves, lifts, loads, and secures our customers’ cargo — a modern fleet of Freightliner day-cab trucks (85+ trucks) and over 300 company chassis, including tri-axles, and the heavy handling equipment at our facilities in Port Newark-Elizabeth and the Port of Savannah. Owning the fleet instead of renting it means a shipment is never waiting on someone else’s machine: the reach stacker, the forklift, the crane, and the trailer are ours, maintained by us, and operated by our own team. This page is an overview of the equipment behind TRT’s drayage, warehousing, oversize transportation, and project cargo services.

Container Handlers and Reach Stackers

The heavy lifters of the operation are our container handlers and reach stackers, with lifting capacity up to 120,000 pounds. They load and unload containers, set heavy pieces onto lowboy and multi-axle trailers, place cargo onto flat racks, and stack and stage containers and out-of-gauge pieces in our yards. When a transformer, a machine, or a crated piece too heavy for a forklift arrives at the port, this is the equipment that takes it off the vessel’s chassis and puts it where it needs to go — in one move, under our team’s control.

Forklifts

Our forklift fleet covers the everyday lifting that keeps freight moving: units rated from 20,000 to 80,000 pounds handle palletized cargo, crates, steel, and machinery inside our warehouses and out in the yard. Forklifts load and unload trailers and containers, feed the wrapping and crating teams, and position pieces for the reach stackers and cranes. Between the forklifts and the container handlers, cargo from a single pallet to a 120,000-pound piece can be lifted at our facilities without bringing in outside equipment.

Trucks, Chassis, and Trailers

TRT operates a modern fleet of Freightliner day-cab trucks and owns over 300 company chassis, including tri-axles. With a fleet of 85+ trucks — all company-owned and run by our own company drivers — and a wide range of specialized trailers, we are equipped to move oversized, heavy, and irregularly shaped freight that standard trailers can’t handle. The trailer fleet includes flatbeds, step decks, RGNs, and perimeter trailers, plus lowboy trailers for tall and heavy pieces, extendable trailers for long loads, and multi-axle trailers that spread weight for the heaviest hauls — all DOT-compliant, with route planning, permitting, and pilot cars arranged load by load. Flat racks carry the out-of-gauge cargo that cannot go inside a container at all.

Cranes and Rigging

Some cargo cannot be rolled or forked into place — it has to be lifted from above. Our craning operation loads and positions heavy and delicate pieces: setting machinery onto trailers, loading over-height cargo into open-top containers, and placing pieces exactly where they belong on flat racks and inside our warehouses. Every lift is assessed piece by piece — weight, balance, lifting points, and the surface it lands on — and rigged with professional securing methods before the hook takes the weight.

Wrapping and Crating Equipment

Cargo that travels on open equipment or sits in outdoor storage needs protection, and our wrapping and crating teams build it on site. Industrial shrink wrapping seals oversized, heavy, or delicate pieces against weather and road conditions; custom-built wooden crates — built around the piece itself, for cargo up to 90,000 pounds — give structural support for transport and storage. The same teams lash and secure loads to flat racks with professional fastening and reinforcement, so what leaves our yard arrives exactly as it left.

Warehouse and Yard Equipment

Behind the lifts and the hauls is the ground operation: 150,000 square feet of warehouse space in Newark — including a 30,000-square-foot warehouse with loading docks built for specialized cargo handling — and our brand-new 316,800-square-foot Savannah warehouse on 30 acres. A 200,000-square-foot secure outdoor yard in Newark stages the oversized pieces that cannot go indoors. Both ports run modern inventory control software, 24/7 surveillance, gated access, and full perimeter protection, so cargo handled by our equipment is also cargo watched around the clock.

Why Owning Our Equipment Matters

No waiting on rentals. A project move runs on TRT’s schedule, not a rental company’s. The right machine for the piece. With handlers, forklifts, cranes, and specialized trailers in-house, the equipment is matched to the cargo — never the other way around. One team, accountable. The people who quote your move are the people who own, maintain, and operate the equipment that moves it. Fewer hand-offs, fewer surprises. Cargo received, lifted, wrapped, and hauled by one company’s equipment stays under one company’s control, from the terminal to final delivery.

Our Equipment FAQs

What equipment does TRT International own?

TRT operates a modern fleet of Freightliner day-cab trucks — 85+ trucks, all company-owned and run by company drivers — and owns over 300 company chassis, including tri-axles, plus specialized trailers: flatbeds, step decks, RGNs, perimeter trailers, lowboys, extendables, multi-axle trailers, and flat racks. At our facilities, container handlers and reach stackers, forklifts, cranes and rigging, and wrapping and crating equipment are all TRT-owned and operated by our own team.

What is the heaviest piece TRT’s equipment can lift?

Our container handlers and reach stackers lift up to 120,000 pounds, and our forklifts are rated from 20,000 to 80,000 pounds. Custom crating is built for cargo up to 90,000 pounds. If your piece is heavier or unusually shaped, send us its dimensions and weight — our team will assess the lift before quoting.

What trailers does TRT use for oversize loads?

Flatbeds, step decks, RGNs, and perimeter trailers, plus lowboy trailers for tall and heavy pieces, extendable trailers for long loads, and multi-axle trailers for the heaviest hauls, plus flat racks for out-of-gauge cargo — matched to each load, DOT-compliant, with route planning, permits, and pilot cars arranged by our team.

Does TRT rent equipment or use outside riggers?

No. TRT owns and operates its own trucks, chassis, trailers, and handling equipment, and our own drivers and operators run it. That is why a shipment is never waiting on a rental delivery or an outside crew’s schedule.

How do I get a quote for a move that needs this equipment?

Call us at +1 973 344 7100 ext 221, email drayage@usatrt.com, or reach us through our contact page. Tell us what the cargo is, its dimensions and weight, and where it is going, and we will match the equipment and provide a clear, detailed quote before any shipment is accepted.
